ALBAN - Appearance Leisure Business Awareness Network

Since 2016, over £2 million has been invested into St Albans by the BID. Here’s how we’ve made a difference:

We will continue to work with St Albans City Council to monitor the streetscene and respond to your concerns or comments.

Waste Management

St Albans BID has joined forces with local waste company KP Waste in a new partnership that aims to improve recycling rates and boost the local economy, saving businesses in St Albans money on their commercial waste costs.

Kevin Hill from KP Waste said:

“We are the leading independent waste and recycling collection company in Hertfordshire. After many years working in St Albans and with all our recycling sites less than 3 miles outside of St Albans we are delighted to partner with St Albans businesses in this way. No waste collected under this contract will be going to landfill and we look forward to improving the businesses’ recycling streams too, to pass savings back to the businesses.

This kind of contract offers the best value for the businesses and we know we can deliver the service and quality that they expect.”

St Albans Business Crime Partnership

Free to BID Members, St Albans BCP supports a radio network with direct access to the police and CCTV control. We meet quarterly with the CCTV monitoring group to understand crime trends and alert our members to known criminal activity in the area. 45 BID Members are also BCP Members, with the subscription fees of members in Harpenden and London Colney further supporting the service. This delivers a wide coverage of businesses connected to each other and to the police by radio.

We are looking to increase our coordination with the police through the ALERT crime app allowing for data-sharing of suspects and crimes to keep businesses informed and safe. If you are interested in our work in this area, please get in touch with Vanessa, our Business Liaison Manager here.

In addition to the Business Crime Partnership, the CCTV and the radio network the BID work closely with the police and security providers. This is because we want to deliver a safe and secure environment for everyone to enjoy with unobtrusive but ever present security features. Some of our security measures are obvious and others are designed not to be. We are always on the lookout to help people so don’t be surprised if our people come and say hello!

Taxi Marshalls

St Albans BID is proud to part fund the Taxi Marshalls Scheme which has been operating since 2005.

The scheme provides SIA-credited security officers between 9pm and 3am on Friday and Saturday evenings and at other times as required. This further bolsters our security footprint.

The overarching objectives for this scheme are to; reduce alcohol related crimes, increase peoples’ feelings of safety, positively promote the night time economy and the safety of drivers.

St Albans Gift Card

We were delighted to announce the launch of a St Albans Gift Card on 12th November 2018. The launch of the specific BID-area card helps to lock in money for local businesses. Our programme uses the existing Mastercard network making it very straightforward to set up and easy to run. It also means that both nationals and independents can be involved. The card can be spent anywhere so it’s not just for objects: it could be used for coffees or cocktails, dinner or dinner jackets, solicitors or slippers… whatever you sell, you should be able to accept the card: and the more people that accept the card, the more popular the card will be, locking more and more income into bricks and mortar stores in our City.

The Gift Card makes a great present for teenagers, work colleagues, friends and loved ones. Also, as a fantastic wedding gift or corporate reward and it’s simply perfect for anyone who is hard to buy for.

For more information please visit the website.
