International Women’s Day, which takes place annually on 8th March, celebrates the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also emphasises a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.
To mark International Women’s Day 2025, St Albans City Centre BID asked female business owners in the BID area to share their experiences and advice for aspiring entrepreneurs.
Bolupe Adebiyi, Founder, The Mores Village :
“In 23 years of being a multi-industry entrepreneur with operations across Europe, Africa and America and evolving into other forms of spheres of influence as a social impact entrepreneur, mentor, speaker and writer, thriving as a woman initially proved very challenging.
I didn’t join ‘them’ because I couldn’t fight ‘them’. I found myself and created systems to attain the highest level of self to be me.
In the last two decades, I have also come to decide to start embracing and enjoying the journey. The challenges have not changed. My perspective has. Especially through my point of view as a woman and all the domestic and professional representations of that sacred title. And I own every single one.
I lean fully on these 8 building blocks in achieving a full and balanced, thriving home and work life: Faith, community, self care, family, self development (never stop learning), friendships, passion (career, business or hobby) and fun! These are apt for this 8th day of March and I would recommend operating fully within these to any woman looking to expand their spheres of influence and not burn out.
I have just one word to break us (women) out on this International Women’s Day 2025: AUDACITY.
‘Be audacious – it’s always worth it!’ Happy International Women’s Day!”
