International Women’s Day, which takes place annually on 8th March, celebrates the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also emphasises a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.
To mark International Women’s Day 2025, St Albans City Centre BID asked female business owners in the BID area to share their experiences and advice for aspiring entrepreneurs.
Emma Bustamante, Founder & Owner, Cositas :
“My dream for Cositas was to create a shop that is eclectic, exciting and joyful, selling products that enhance your life and make you smile.
We’re proud to have incorporated into the shop a space where other small businesses can grow, connect, and thrive with our suppliers, pop up shop renters and support team. As a business owner myself in the retail sector, I know the challenges that come with starting something new, especially as a woman in business. But I also know the power of resilience, community, and belief in your own vision.
I love to see other women following their dream and although the retail world can be tough at the moment, confidence in your ideas and abilities is what sets you apart. Seek out people who uplift you, stay adaptable, and remember that success isn’t just about big wins – it’s in every small step forward.
Today, we celebrate the strength, creativity, and determination of women everywhere. To all the incredible women-led businesses in St Albans and beyond, keep going, keep growing, and know that your impact matters.
Here’s to breaking barriers, supporting one another, and shaping a future where women in business continue to thrive.”
