Pop Up Beach Returns this August

14 Jul 2026

St Albans City Centre BID is delighted to bring back the popular St Albans Pop-Up Beach, transforming Civic Close into a giant sandy playground for families to enjoy during the summer holidays.

From Saturday 8 August to Sunday 23 August 2026 the free attraction, sponsored by Collinson Hall will be open daily from 10am to 4pm, giving children the chance to build sandcastles, dig in the sand and enjoy a seaside experience right in the heart of the city.

Located outside The Alban Arena, the pop-up beach creates a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere that encourages families to spend time in the city centre, supporting local businesses while enjoying everything St Albans has to offer. Visitors can combine a trip to the beach with shopping, dining and exploring the city’s cultural attractions.

Vivien Cannon, BID Manager at St Albans City Centre BID, said:

“The Pop-Up Beach provides a chance to put your feet in sand in the very heart of our city. Its perfect for families when visiting St Albans. Make a day of it and explore our fantastic shops and attractions and there’s no need to pack your lunch as you will be surrounded by our city’s eateries. So, pack your sunscreen, grab your sun hat, bring a chair or blanket, and join us for sun, sand, and smiles.”

The beach will be managed by Odin Events, with staff on site throughout the day to ensure the area remains clean, safe and welcoming for all visitors. While limited seating will be available, families are encouraged to bring their own chairs or blankets for added comfort.

For visitor convenience, public toilets are available in the adjacent council offices on weekdays, while weekend facilities can be found at the St Albans Museum + Gallery on St Peter’s Street.

A firm favourite in the city’s events calendar, the St Albans Pop-Up Beach continues to attract families into the city centre, helping to create a lively summer atmosphere and encouraging visitors to discover and support our fantastic local businesses.

We look forward to welcoming residents and visitors alike for another summer of sand, smiles and city-centre fun.
